Our Story
A bit about where we’ve been, and where we are going…
Welcome to Arabella Flours! We’ve been a work in progress just shy of a year now. It’s an adventure to be back in the swing of producing food for folks outside of our family. Some of you may recall, my husband and I formerly started and owned Elim Springs Farm and Dairy which produced beef, pork, chicken, eggs and raw dairy. Though we no longer own that farm, we still support local small family farms who produce these products for our family, the way we want to nourish ourselves.
As life tends to do, it changes, and our family changed as well. Kids grew up, moved here and there, and then grandchildren started arriving! We determined it was time for a new chapter of life, so we sold our businesses. My husband began running a software company and we now have one last teenager in the house. We are about to be empty nesters.
What new stage does this bring? Rich and I affectionately call ourselves hobbits. We really must work at leaving our house! We are homebodies in every sense, though we do enjoy attending church, sharing meals with friends, day trips, and the teenager being a social creature, forces us, or keeps us socially active!
The thing about being an older entrepreneur: this was the beginning of an article I recently read, and it really resonated with me. Jumping back into producing in your 50s is certainly different than your 30s and 40s. Physically, no question there, pretty sure that needs no explanation. Experience and time have a way coming together. The years of producing on our first farm taught us many lessons, you know the “what not to do” and the “be sure to do” kinds of things. Arabella Farms will have its own lessons and we are headed into it as older entrepreneurs with some season on us, but we are excited about our new farming adventure and hope you will get to know us and enjoy our new labors!
Arabella raises fresh produce, naturally grown with organic practices. Our goal is to raise the best possible food without chemical inputs. That was our goal from the beginning and it still hasn’t changed after all this time. It’s the way we eat and the way we want to raise it for you as well. We are producing fresh vegetables and in the future fresh cut flowers (because who doesn’t love flowers?). Berry plants have also been planted with the desire to offer it, once established.
Arabella Farms has signed up for our first farmer’s market season in 2024. Dipping our toes in the water again to see how it all goes. We will offer in-season vegetables from our small but growing farm, sourdough bread items, and granola. We look forward to meeting new folks and establishing new relationships with producers and families. Farmer’s markets produce more than food and items, it also produces friendships and connections because we are all busy making it through life. We look forward to being a part of yours!
